Hunter’s Moon #2

The jacaranda was further along this time, its distinctive fern-like foliage creating intricate patterns against the moonlit sky. I was fascinated by how the branches seemed to glow from behind – that backlighting effect where you see both the solid dark masses and the delicate tracery. The moon sat haloed in pale cream and yellow, surrounded by sweeping bands of violet and grey. Working with watercolour, I built up the complexity of the branches while keeping that atmospheric quality in the sky. Spring in Sydney brings this particular light – crisp nights where everything feels sharp and defined. The jacaranda's structure is so architectural, even before the purple flowers take over completely.
