Snow Moon

February's Snow Moon appeared with this explosive radiance – the entire sky seemed to pulse outward in shades of magenta and violet. I captured a cluster of lemon tree leaves backlit and silhouetted against all that colour creating a natural focal point. The moon wore a golden halo, and the light radiated through the atmosphere like ripples moving outward. Working with watercolour, I built up those concentric waves of pink and purple, darker at the edges, nearly white at the centre. Even though it's summer here when the northern hemisphere gets snow, the name still felt right – there's something about that particular full moon's intensity. One leaf was enough to anchor the whole composition, to give scale to that vast wash of colour.
